WebTView Unveils Transcoding Capabilities to Empower Telcos, MSOs and Satellite Operators with Thousands of Additional TV Channels

2008-11-02WebTView Ltd., a leading provider of a patent pending end-to-end software platform that connects home TV and mobile devices to a multitude of high quality Internet TV channels worldwide, has announced today a major enhancement of its WebTView platform for Telcos, MSOs and Satellite operators.

The Internet is flooded with Flash-based videos (such as those found at YouTube) and other formats that are not supported by standard STBs and mobile devices can be viewed mainly on PCs. WebTView's solution transcodes these media files into formats that are supported by STBs, expanding the number of channels that can be played on STBs and enabling any content on legacy STBs that are currently limited to Mpeg-2.

"Service providers have recognized the need to add Internet content as part of their TV service packages", commented Mr. Gilad Brand, WebTView's VP of Marketing. "Our innovative WebTView platform will enable them to offer various video formats including Flash video on any STB via any broadband technology", he adds.

WebTView's solution enables content caching on the service provider's servers. This enables service providers to use any infrastructure, whether IP, cable, cellular or satellite network, to deliver the content to the home. Using this cache, service providers can ensure Quality of Service (QoS) by utilizing their managed access network to deliver high-quality content to both DVRs/PVRs as well as streaming-only STB.

The WebTView Platform consists of two main components: a server and an integrated client plug-in. Unlike other solutions, WebTView's platform does not require a PC to deliver Internet TV channels.

The WebTView server is a back-office server that stores content metadata, which it dynamically discovers on the Internet on a continual basis. The discovered video and music are automatically analyzed and classified.

The WebTView client plug-in is an optimized software application, which is integrated on any media devices. The plug-in communicates with the WebTView server and ensures a smooth user experience through its smart engine, which personalizes the TV catalog according to the end-user behavior.
